Where is Montgomery Processing Center Located?

Montgomery Processing Center is located on Hilbig Street in Conroe, Texas, about 40 minutes outside of Houston. While families located in the Houston area may find visitation easy to manage, frequent transfers between ICE facilities and multiple facilities in a small geographic area may make it harder for loved ones to find and visit detainees. The Online Detainee Locator System, run by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, can help family members see where a detainee is currently being held.

How the Montgomery Processing Center Operates

Montgomery Processing Center is a 400,000-square foot center run by The GEO Group, Inc. Detainees typically have access to outdoor recreation, a law library, medical care, and other basic services. Conditions may vary based on staffing levels, the amount of detainees being held at any given time, and other factors.

This center operates as a detention and processing center, so it holds individuals in immigration custody. People may be held here temporarily or long-term while awaiting the outcome of their immigration case or awaiting transfer to another facility. Because of this, some detainees may only be held here for a matter of hours or days before being sent to another facility.

Communication and Visitation Options

Each ICE detention center has its own rules regarding communication and visitation. Montgomery Processing Center has tablets that allow detainees to communicate with loved ones. You must sign up online to send messages to tablets. Note that these communications are not confidential and may be read by other detainees or staff members.

Detainees cannot receive incoming calls, but loved ones can leave messages. You can call the facility directly and leave the detainee’s name and Alien Registration number.

Visitation is permitted seven days a week, but the actual hours a detainee can receive visitors depend on their gender and level of security. For example, on Sunday, 8 A.M. to 12 P.M. is reserved for low- and medium low-security male detainees, while 1 P.M. to 5 P.M. is for medium high- and high-security male detainees.

Visitors should double-check the visitation schedule before making the drive to ensure they are arriving within the correct time frame. Detainees can only have one social visitation per week.

Note that this facility has much stricter dress codes than many other detention facilities, and visitors who do not meet the dress code will be turned away. Requirements vary for females younger than the age of 12, females above the age of 12, male visitors younger than 12, and male visitors older than 12.

Detainees’ Legal Rights at the Montogomery County Detention Center

Detainees have the right to consult with their lawyer while being held at Montgomery Processing Center. Legal representatives can visit every day of the week between 7 A.M. and 7 P.M.

Detainees also have access to a list of free legal organizations, but the center will not reach out to them on detainees’ behalf. It’s their obligation to contact them directly.

Virtual visitation and legal calls are also permitted. Legal representatives have to request visitation rights through the processing center directly. The center may also facilitate the delivery or signing of important legal documents, but they are not responsible for any errors in documentation.
